What is it?

In today’s digital era, the education sector faces both unprecedented opportunities and challenges. Millions of schools remain without internet access, hindering progress toward inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all. Bridging this gap requires more than connectivity; it calls for a comprehensive approach to building digital public infrastructure (DPI) that can transform education systems for the future.

HIGHLIGHTS

This new publication, Building the Case for Digital Public Infrastructure in Education, explores how interoperable and scalable DPI can serve as the backbone for delivering accessible and equitable digital learning opportunities. Developed under Giga, the ITU-UNICEF initiative to connect every school to the Internet, the paper provides actionable insights into how DPI fosters innovation that can strengthen education systems and support the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4).

The report delves into existing solutions and strategic frameworks while also proposing new approaches towards building resilient, learner-focused ecosystems. By prioritizing interoperability and open standards, DPI fosters collaboration among educators, policymakers and communities, enabling them to scale transformative education solutions that address local challenges and needs.
